COSHH or the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 is a law put in place to ensure employers are in control of any damaging substances that may harm employees. This is obviously quite a serious area with regards to health and safety as the HSE website have got every possible outcome covered.

The case studies posted on to the HSE website were a very interesting read. I couldn’t believe how something that seems so harmless as flour could be so damaging to someone’s breathing resulting in a pay out of £200,000 in damages. Below is a link to this particular story.

These stories are obviously on there to demonstrate to employers the severity of what could happen if proper control of substances isn’t put in place. This particular story regarding the flour states that the lady has to approach her union who dealt with the matter for her.
